Ilpo Laspas (b. 1984) started taking piano lessons at the age of nine, and by 1999, at the age of 15, he was also studying the organ and harpsichord. After enrolling in the Sibelius Academy Youth Department, where he studied with Sirkka-Liisa Jussila-Gripentrog (organ) and Elina Mustonen (harpsichord), Ilpo Laspas was admitted to the Soloist Department in each of his three instruments. He took his B diploma on the piano in 2005 (under Tuija Hakkila), his A diploma on the harpsichord in 2006, his A diploma on the continuo in 2007 and his A diploma on the organ in 2009 (under Kari Jussila), all with excellent marks. After completing his Master of Music (MMus) Degree in spring 2009 and his organ improvisation diploma with Harri Viitanen in spring 2010, Ilpo Laspas began his doctoral studies (Art Study Program) at the Sibelius Academy concentrating on the various aspects of the interpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach´s music on the organ and harpsichord. He gave his debut concert - as his 1st doctoral concert - on these instruments in February 2011. During his doctoral studies (2010–2015) he had private lessons e.g. in Berlin with professors Mitzi Meyerson (harpsichord) and Paolo Crivellaro and Leo van Doeselaar (organ). Ilpo Laspas completed his Doctor of Music Degree in spring 2016.

Ilpo Laspas has attended several organ and harpsichord master classes, both in Finland and abroad. He has been awarded both whole-year grant and three-year grant for his artistic work and his doctoral studies by the Finnish Cultural Foundation.

In 2003 Ilpo Laspas received a prize in the Leevi Madetoja piano competition in Finland. In 2006 he was awarded the second prize and the audience prize in the International Johann Sebastian Bach Harpsichord Competition in Leipzig, and in 2008 he won the second prize in the organ category of the same competition. In 2009 he was awarded a special prize in the third Kotka International Organ Competition.

In spring 2000, Ilpo Laspas was awarded the Pro Musica medal at the age of 16. In 2004 he was awarded by the French Académie Musicale de Villecroze with a scholarship for studying with Huguette Dreyfus in Paris and making a promotional harpsichord recording which was recorded in October 2005. Ilpo Laspas has been honored as Young Artist of the Year 2006 by Vantaa Baroque, the Finnish Early Music Festival; as Young Artist of the Year 2009 by Pori Organ; as Young Organist of the Turku Cathedral for the year 2009; and as Young Organist of the Year 2010 by Lahti Organ Festival. In 2014 Ilpo Laspas was awarded a grant by the Pro Musica Foundation.

Ilpo Laspas appears regularly as a soloist and as a chamber musician in Finland and Europe. As an organ and harpsichord soloist he has given recitals at several festivals, including Pori Organ, Lahti Organ, BRQ Vantaa Festival, and Merseburger Orgeltage. In 2016 he made an organ recital tour consisting 12 concerts in Germany organized by Deutsch-Finnische Gesellschaft. One of these concerts was given on the unique Arp Schnitger organ at St. Martini et Nicolai Church in Steinkirchen. In 2017 he gave his organ recital at Gewandhaus Leipzig.
Ilpo Laspas often plays with orchestras, choirs, instrumentalists and singers. He has played e. g. in Helsinki Baroque Orchestra, Opus X, The Musicians of the King´s Road, and with Lumen Valo. He is the organist of Ensemble Petraloysio conducted by Kari Turunen. The speciality of this ensemble is to perform early choral music like Palestrina with organ and other instrumental accompaniment.
Ilpo Laspas´s special performances include the 100th Anniversary Concert in the new Bachhaus Eisenach as a harpsichordist with baroque violinist Mayumi Hirasaki in 2007, the opening gala of the Helsinki Music Centre in August 2011 as the first organist, the world premiere of the new instrument, Omniwerk, at the BRQ Vantaa Festival in August 2014, and the inaugural concert of the Kennedy harpsichord in Tampere, Finland, with baroque violinist Aira Maria Lehtipuu in February 2019. This harpsichord, no. 183, after M. Mietke, is owned by The Pirkanmaa Regional Fund (Finnish Cultural Foundation) and it is harpsichord maker Bruce Kennedy´s first instrument in Finland.

Ilpo Laspas has CD recorded Aimo Känkänen´s organ music in 2015 (Fuga). He also appears on Kimmo Pohjonen´s album Sensitive Skin as the Omniwerk-player. For the Finnish Yle Radio he has recorded Johann Sebastian Bach´s harpsichord music. For the Spanish TV5 Channel (Mediaset) he has arranged works of Italian and Spanish early baroque music, and video recorded them for the Musical Cities tv-program as a harpsichordist together with viol player and cellist Markku Luolajan-Mikkola and cellist Guadalupe López-Íñiguez in 2015.
